SENIOR LITIGATION COUNSEL
We are currently searching for an experienced candidate to assume the role of Senior Attorney, leading the firm’s commercial litigation practice group with a specific focus on Oregon litigation matters. The successful candidate must be admitted to practice in Oregon and possess a minimum of 7-10 years of experience in commercial litigation, including substantial expertise in handling legal matters related to business disputes. The role involves leading a litigation team comprising an associate attorney and paralegal/legal assistant, with opportunities for growing the litigation practice group.
Depending on experience, potential for rapid advancement to Shareholder (equity shareholder).
The position mandates a minimum of 7 years of law practice, with the ideal candidate exhibiting experience in federal and state court litigation, administrative hearings, and other legal proceedings, including:
- First-chair or second-chair trial experience on matters with at least $1 million at issue.
- Setting and executing case strategy.
- Preparing pleadings.
- Motions practice, briefing, and oral argument.
- Document discovery, review, management, and production, including large-scale electronic discovery.
- Taking and defending fact, expert, and document depositions.
- Hiring and directing expert witnesses in diverse fields such as cannabis, business valuation, and damages.
- Negotiating settlements and participating in mediation and other alternative dispute resolution processes.
- Diverse and engaging civil litigation cases may include, without limitation, contract disputes, torts, partnership disputes, corporate ownership and governance disputes, investor disputes, intellectual property, products liability, landlord-tenant, employment, administrative and regulatory hearings, and real estate matters.
Skills Required
- Team Collaboration and Leadership: Effective motivation, mentoring, and management of other attorneys, paralegals, and legal assistants in a team environment that extends beyond Oregon.
- Interpersonal Skills: Decisiveness, collaboration, strong verbal communication, and well-developed emotional intelligence.
- Judgment: Consistently exercising superior judgment and maintaining high ethical standards, collaborating with other litigation attorneys, and supporting transactional and regulatory attorneys.
- Writing: Producing superior written products, including client memoranda, arbitration and mediation briefs, motions, and/or appellate briefing.
- Research: Efficient, creative, and effective legal research skills, including substantive law, civil procedure, administrative law, and federal and state regulatory requirements.
Other Essential Job Duties: The successful candidate must handle their cases, lead the Oregon commercial litigation practice group, oversee attorneys and staff, and market the litigation group’s skills. Additionally, they will contribute to non-billable activities such as firm administration and professional development.
Portable Business: Some portable business is preferred but not required.
Title: Senior Counsel with potential for rapid advancement to Shareholder (equity shareholder) depending upon experience.
Salary: Competitive annual salary with a subjective annual bonus.
